Week of 9/21/2021 Review of Computer Technologies and websites I am familiar with most of these, so a good review. I did not see anything that struck me as something I couldn't live without at this time. I use a regular laptop or desktop, have an iPad (Air), I also have a Wacom tablet that I use with my computer. I may at some point play with using my iPad for some creative efforts. I agree that the Apple Pencil is pretty awesome, if expensive. I use Photoshop Elements, Photoshop Lightroom and Corel Painter Elements. Haven't felt like I could justify the Creative Cloud expense or even Painter. But that was part of the reason I took this class. It is just that the learning curve on CC is just too steep to do on ones own...and the expense does not justify that. So, we shall see.. I have a Flikr account...have for many years. Familiar with Shutterfly, not with SmugMug. Good to know.  Christian Hubler and Knowbotic Research I am afraid this one went right over my head. It was hard

Week of 9/13/2021

The installation(s) of Rafael Lozano-Hemmer.    Wowie.  I was fascinated by every aspect of his work. The most compelling message I heard from him was his thoughts on his own privilege. This is something I struggle with. While I am not male, I am white. I am bisexual, but you can't tell that by looking at a person (and I don't go around advertising it...) so I am, by definition, privileged. It is a huge problem. How to help with a problem that I see but by definition I am part of the problem.  I was hugely moved by his comments: we have to try.  I do have a problem with outdoor light installations. The light pollution bothers me... Artistically, I feel so small next to a person of this stature. Hugely talented and with so much to say.  I am a child clutching a crayon.... Elements of Art/Principles of Design Good review.  Matthew Carter Well, this was fun. Back in the old days I did typesetting (not type design) and I do remember some of the problems. We used to have to play wi
Week of 9/7/2021 Copyright Law: Lot's of interesting material this week. The whole series of lectures on copyright law was super helpful. Ever since my second grade Catholic teacher (Miss Dalessandro!!) stood me up in front of the class and shamed me for copying my report on a saint, I have actually been terrified of plagiarism. Eee gads. You have no idea. It froze me for years, but I still feel faintly sick about it.  These clarified a number of questions. The definitions of Creative Commons licenses particularly useful, and the challenges with Fair Use also helpful.  I really appreciate this overview. It makes one think more critically about what one is doing with the plethora of creativity around us and what it means to ones own creativity. I loved the final statement on one of the videos: Don't do to others what you wouldn't want done to you. Great advice.  Spark Video Well, well. This has been a little more fun than I thought. Was not aware of this little program. Qui
