Week of December 5, 2021 Coming up on the final run.  The question posed by the discussion video is a challenging one. I am not certain I could say that either side is wrong. This is one of the difficulties I have with sites like Behance: the rabbit hole is almost more enticing than really exploring the site, getting inspiration, etc. Still, the sharing of information has the potential, I think, to really boost creativity. I have certainly been inspired this semester by seeing things that I would never be able to see without the internet. THat is a huge boon. I think I have a healthy wariness of the internet, email and particularly social media. I have been threatened or bad-mouthed on-line and I have learned just not to go there. I have gotten sucked in and I have pulled back out. I don't, for instance, have email on my phone. I don't get notifications except for a buzz from my texts - and that is because we use this extensively in my job to communicate. And I allow my phone
Week of November 29, 2021 I am finding it difficult to stay focused. These last few weeks are less than stimulating and I keep forgetting to get back to the assignments after the holiday. Not sure how to fix this, but I am lost... Well, Behance is way too much for me. I imagine it has a place for up-and-coming artists, but I can't see myself ever using it. Of course, I am just doing this for fun. I have no desire to create a new career.  It is interesting to see where this has come since I worked in graphic design. I quit my last job there in 1989, just as the first Mac's were being brought in. We didn't have the internet or the widespread access to digital stuff.  That was only 30 years ago. Yikes. But, I still find it really not worth my time. I am not sure how one would not just get lost in some of these websites. I still don't go into YouTube...I don't like rabbit holes!!! Funny. I love working with digital art. I love being able to stream my music and videos,
Week of November 14, 2021 Burtonesque was interesting.  He is one of those artists that I really like some of his work and really don't like some. I really hated Beetlejuice. One of the rare films I actually walked out on. But enjoyed the Nightmare Before Christmas.  His world building is pretty incredible, and it is a good thing I can appreciate the artistry without having to like the art. Not really my style, but he is quite an artist.  The weeks assignment was really fun and really challenging. I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. I had to go out and take videos...I really don't mess with them much. Rush is a pretty cool program, easier than most of Adobe to get a simple grasp of, although I am sure it will do much more than what I did. Lots of fun, though, figuring out what song, how to illustrate it, getting the videos and the editing was really, really fun. I forgot that back in my younger days I went to Cal State Long Beach for a while and my intention was to
Week of November 7, 2021 Another challenging week. First of all the video about Disney Dream Jobs. Well, I am a cynic, and this seemed more exploitative than anything. Maybe it was just a few clips from a full day of exploration for this young woman, but I really did not like this.  I never wanted to work for Disney, not Disneyland, not Disneyworld, not anything Disney. I like some of their work, but not to work for. One of my classmates (in the discussion) talked about how happy Disney makes everyone.  Yuch!!! I tried not to be to old and cynical in my discussion. LOL. The animation challenge was super cool. Never thought I could ever do something like this. I think there would be a very steep learning curve for me if I should think about doing another one. The balloon I did was a bit blinky and I just couldn't figure out how to fix it, but it was fun. Very fun to do. And I did it. Very cool.
Week of 11/1/2021 In Design. I had to think about it, but I do remember using this quite a while ago. I've pretty much switched to Publisher, mostly because of the cost. I think I had it back when Creative Cloud first got started, so it was still available as a Standalone product.  It has been interesting getting to know this one. One of the good things about using all of Adobe's software is that many of the functions are the same across each product, or the same enough that figuring out the differences is pretty easy. Still, there is so much more to learn. I have worked my way through many, though not all of these videos. Pretty dense week. The Printing Press tour was just absolutely fantastic. He was so engaging, and so funny that I was delighted to walk through with him. And, the history was also engaging. My ex was a printer and I learned how to run a small press back in my 20's, but never really learned much about the history. I did a lot of "typesetting" in
Week of 10/18/2021 Mid term week. I decided not to try for three shots. I got three wrong but I think one of them should be correct. Unfortunately I can't look at it again to see which ones I got wrong. Stupid. If I had a paper test I could be studying my incorrect responses. That's how one learns. Not by being given 3 tries. I find that almost insulting...LOL. I can't believe how easy these kids have it. But I am 100% certain I answered the question about what was copyrightable correctly. This is one of the problems with this online format. It's a PIB to fix a problem.  Okay, enough grumping about cheesy tests. (And I refuse to do it more than once.) Working on the next weeks assignment. I am going to have to really work to get familiar with Illustrator. I have some background on both Lightroom and Photoshop, but not Illustrator. Yikes Week of 10/25/2021 Crazy week. I screwed up the assignments. Not looking in the right place. From here on I will look in all the possib
Week of October 11, 2021 This is a very dense week!!! Much to do and I am behind (my days off are Monday and Tuesday so I try to get a lot done on these days but I had Drs. appointments.  Yikes!  I am behind!!!) I really would have loved to hear more and see more of Bert Monroy.  That was fantastically interesting and educational. Those two things don't always go together. I still use Photoshop Elements because the software has such a long learning curve. It was heartening to hear him talk about how he just figured out out to use this stuff. You have to admire these artists. Really loved this video. Very inspirational, although I can't imagine me doing anything like he does. Okay, this is a really intense week. I am wondering - as I work my way through all the tutorials - if this exercise is not too advanced for me. I feel like I am having to master a lot of material in a very short amount of time. Yikes. I wish the Pinterest assignment came earlier...I tend to watch these in
